A Green theme for the Great Science Share

This term, Year Five children at St. Barnabas Primary School in Warmley were introduced to using electricity by making moving “scribble-bots” and electric cars.
They then asked themselves:
How can we change and improve our electrical vehicles?
The children worked in teams to make adjustments and customise their vehicles, repeatedly testing and improving them.
They’ve put their findings on posters to share at the Great Science Share, Bristol and Bath satellite event on 18th June, where they’ll also be demonstrating their bots and vehicles.
But St. Barnabas hasn’t stopped there, a separate group of children acting as School Councillors have signed up with Kids Against Plastic and challenged themselves with the question:
How can we reduce the plastic used in our school?
They want to make St. Barnabas ‘Plastic Clever’ by reducing the single-use plastic used in school.
The team have audited the school’s use of plastic and are considering ways to reduce the use of plastic bin liners, disposable plastic pots and plastic straws.
They present their results at an assembly coming up soon and are writing letters to St. Barnabas kitchen staff and cleaning team in order to help reduce their use of plastic.
