Call to include sustainability in the curriculum

Call to include sustainability in the curriculum

1 Apr 2025

In March, Global Action Plan in partnership with UCL’s Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Education sent an open letter to Secretary of State for Education, Bridget Phillipson MP. Timed to coincide with ongoing Curriculum and Assessment review, the letter calls for ‘more comprehensive inclusion of climate and environmental sustainability in the National Curriculum.’

The letter has been co-signed by many of the UK’s leading climate and earth systems scientists, economists, academics, and educationalists including Sir David King, Lord Nicholas Stern, Kate Pickett, Danny Dorling, Mark Maslin, Kate Raworth, Lee Elliot Major, Cat Scutt, and Mike Berners-Lee. Since initial publication, over 450 people have added their names, bringing the total at time of writing to 607. New names, including those of many teachers, are being added every day.
