KS2 classes visit South Glos. Libraries for Engineering Curiosity workshops
South Gloucestershire Libraries welcomed more than 200 year 6 pupils to their local library to take part in Engineering Curiosity workshops delivered by UWE Bristol’s Inspire Sustainability team. The workshops were part of a programme of activities designed to support children’s learning through the My Library Card initiative where all year 6 pupils were given their own library card.
The children learnt about the huge diversity of engineering roles, and the diversity of the engineers themselves. With the help of the Engineering Curiosity top-trump cards featuring real Bristol engineers, including the Clifton Suspension Bridge-master, Filton’s aerospace engineers, and those working to help our city reach net-zero.
With their fresh engineering heads on, the children were invited to be creative problem-solvers and come up with amazing engineering solutions to make their world a better place.

“Great event for the children, the level of engagement was brilliant. The children had great discussions and came up with lots of ideas. The top trumps of local engineers is fantastic and will develop reading skills through discovery.”

“Understood that engineers come in all shapes and sizes. Children recognised engineering is in lots of different jobs and these jobs can and are local to us.”
The free sessions are available to schools in the West for booking in the new year. They can take place in your school, or on campus at the School of Engineering building at UWE. Pair the workshop with a tour around the building whilst meeting our students, staff, and Pepper the robot and hearing about engineering at university.
