Laura works for the University of the West of England (UWE) Bristol and has three main roles; teaching, research, and knowledge exchange.

Teaching engineers – sustainability & communication skills

Research – creating projects where diverse people can learn from each other about their sustainable development and climate action projects.

Knowledge Exchange – share learning from her research with others, though networking meetings and events. Spreading the word about green jobs, repair communities, and science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education for diverse young people.

Laura also leads a team who organise community climate action and STEM learning in schools. And they’re the ones who’ve created this Inspire Green Future card pack!!

In her spare time (!), Laura runs her own community group in Winterbourne with a repair café, energy engagement and nature pollinator pathway.

Surprising bit? “I work with Minecraft as my job! And we show people around robots, wind turbines and VR technology. The most fun new bit is running a repair café where we fix broken goods for people!”

Earning: £45,000 – £60,000

Workplace: Laura works in the landmark School of Engineering at UWE Bristol. Her small team has a brightly coloured outreach classroom with lots of STEM props and activities to bring university alive for young people.

Laura works with other lecturers to teach students, but also takes part in meetings with businesses and science communicators.

Best bit? “I get to meet lots of people from so many different communities, and empower them to make a difference where they live. I also get to inspire future generations with role models they can relate to – finding inspiring people in local communities is a joy to share with others.
