Nature Reserves Officer

Fern works for Avon Wildlife Trust (AWT), which is a charity focused on bringing wildlife back into the region. Fern helps to manage the habitats in AWT’s reserves, making sure they are supporting the wildlife living there to thrive.

Some parts of the reserves are open to the public, so making sure paths are safe for visitors is an important part of Fern’s job.

Fern also works outside the AWT reserves with local organisations to ensure that habitats across the region are connected and thriving.

Surprising bit? “There are days where I weigh dormice, count flowers or butterfly eggs!”
