Youth Climate Communications Toolkit

Youth Climate Communications Toolkit

24 Oct 2021

The Youth Climate Communications Toolkit is a resource that provides young people, 16-24 years old, with empowering tools to act on environmental issues that matter to them.

It is recommended for teachers of Year 11 & sixth form/college classes, particularly as a resource to help pupils combat their personal climate anxieties.

The toolkit includes information and exercises covering the following areas:

  • establishing a team with a focused social action project
  • examining different people’s worldviews and how people in positions of power can be influenced
  • exploring communication methods to engage audiences – from posters to social media and film-making
  • reflecting on learnings and evaluating communication impact

The University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol’s Science Communication Unit co-created the toolkit with a pilot group of young people from the Avon Schools Eco-Network, UWE and the CCC-Catapult project. The toolkit can be used as a standalone resource for teachers or youth groups, but it can also be delivered alongside training from the UWE Bristol communication experts.

If you’d like to arrange such a session, or just learn more about the toolkit, please contact the Inspire Sustainability team.
