Cerise has recently (2024) completed her Commercial Degree Apprenticeship with UWE Bristol and EDF Energy (Hinkley Point C Project) – where EDF are building two new nuclear reactors) and now works for EDF full time.

A degree apprentice earns money at a company whilst also studying to get a degree – so they learn key skills and University fees are paid by the company.

During her degree apprenticeship, Cerise spent time working in different parts of the Supply Chain. Now she’s graduated, she manages different construction contracts – ensuring construction companies deliver on time, to budget and that the correct processes are followed’.

Surprising bit? “Doing a site walk and seeing the nuclear power station being built.”

Job insight

Earning: £40,000 – £100,000 plus

Workplace: Cerise works with loads of different teams at Hinkley Point, from finance to legal. Being able to work well with others, communicate effectively and be innovative are key to success.

Best bit? “Having a great team to work with, they are a constant source of knowledge, allowing me to ask a lot of questions and we can all learn from each other.” 

Tricky bit? “Sometimes you may feel like you do not know enough, however this job is always about learning and gaining confidence in your approach. This is why it is important to recognise that your team are there to help and we are all able to learn from each other.”

Cerise’s top tips for your career: “Do not worry about not being 100% certain on what you want to do in the future, just ensure you push yourself outside your comfort zone.”

Cerise is right at the beginning of her career. Now she’s graduated and is working at EDF full-time, she’s beginning to work towards chartership (a professional qualification that shows proficiency in an area).
