Renewables Investment Manager
-
Chris works for Thrive Renewables, a company that exists to tackle the climate emergency by putting money to work building new sustainable energy projects and empowering people to take climate action.
Chris connects investors (with the money) to people wanting to create renewable energy projects. He gets projects built and then ensures they operate well to pay back the investors, encourage more people to invest in renewables and build more projects.
Surprising bit? “I have to think a lot outside the box about how to get wind turbine blades up small roads.”

Earning: £60,000 – £100,000
Workplace: Chris’ role is mostly desk based, but with lots of site visits to check in with landowners and build progress. He works with everyone involved in a project, the landowners, engineers, banks, and lawyers, as well as the community leaders and investors.
Best bit? “The variety. As Investment Manager you are involved across the whole project lifecycle and all sorts of topics… From discussing long term plans with the farmers that will host the sites and communities that will invest, to working out practical constraints, like the best aviation radar systems to ensure that blade rotations don’t interfere with air traffic control.”
Chris’ Career Path
Chris’ top tips for your career: “Lots of skills are transferable so don’t worry if you don’t know what to do yet. Subjects like engineering are very broad and so you can go on not knowing what to specialise in well into your 20s.”
